November and December saw ManAlive out and about visiting local farmer’s marts in Armagh and Dungannon Councils. The aim was to directly target men within rural communities to raise awareness on a number of issues directly affecting them. Men were encouraged to take an active interest in and responsibility for their health as a means to improve both their quality of life and their quantity of life.
The dates and times of mart visits:
Saturday 13 November - Clogher Mart - 9am to 2pm
Tuesday 16 November - Markethill Mart - 9.30am to 1pm
Wednesday 17 November – Markethill Mart. 7pm to 9pm.
Wednesday 01 December – Granville Mart, Dungannon. 9.30am to 2pm
Pictured above, Mairead McCann, ManAlive Health Promotion Nurse invited men to have health checks including measuring blood pressure, blood glucose, BMI and percentage body fat. Mairead reminded participants that even minor changes such as moderating alcohol intake, smoking less, eating more healthy food and exercising more can build energy and all have positive affects on health.
ManAlive worked in partnership with Closing the Gap, The Niamh Louise Foundation and Opportunity Youth on this very successful health awareness initiative.
